Cybele Mendes Photography

I am the owner of Cybele Mendes Photography, located in Wilmington, Delaware.  After taking my first photography class while in high school, I was in love.  The ability to capture an image, so life-like but still interpretive, gave me the ability to document my environment and to express myself.

I love the opportunity to create a work of art in collaboration with a toddler, infant, or a family.  It gives me great joy to partake in recording the fleeting moments in a child’s life.  Kids change and grow from week to week; thus my images create tangible mementos to complement the memories in one’s heart.

I think of myself as a seeker of light.  Beautiful lighting is the key to fantastic photographs.  I primarily use daylight, and couple that with high-end digital imaging.

I studied fine art photography at Cornell University, where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, and subsequently attended the Rhode Island School of Design and received a Masters of Fine Arts.  Through my education, I had ample time to hone my craft, creatively and conceptually.  I had the opportunity to teach photography and related media at Western Michigan University, and also at my alma mater, Cornell.

My photographs and video art have been exhibited nationally and internationally, and I’ve presented my work at conferences for the Society for Photographic Education.  Among other awards, I was the recipient of a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, and also an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Delaware Division of the Arts.

I am married to a wonderful man, and I am the proud aunt to a precocious niece and a curious nephew.
